To understand the commitment that it takes to be at the top of your game as a Pro take a look at the sample training weeks below. Professional Athletes have shared some of their training plans to help give you an idea of what being Pro involves.
These are a sample training plans based on the training plans of real Professional and could very easly be different from your training plan. Please use the plans as reference of how others are training and have a professional coach work with you to tailor your own plan and supplement usage.
*Please note that training weeks will change over time. This sample does not include any core or strength work which is a standard part of triathlon training but remember every athlete is different. There will be different parts of a training plan that can include build phases, endurance extension phases, base building, loading and taper. This is a guide of a standard week that is designed to give you an idea of the amount of time that a pro athlete puts into their training. To enssure they get the best out of their training they use DBM Endurance supplements.
DBM Endurance Pro is an extremely advanced endurance supplement containing ingredients which are scientifically documented to rapidly increase VO2 max, reduce lactic acid and speed recovery. The following research documents the effectiveness of DBM Endurance Pro.
Rhodiola rosea (minimum 5.1% rosavins)
An adaptogen that is native to the high altitude Polar Regions of Europe and Asia. Rhodiola rosea containing minimum 5.1% rosavins is the most potent strain available worldwide. In a recent double blind placebo controlled randomized study, it was scientifically documented that Rhodiola rosea increases VO2 Max in addition to significantly reducing fatigue.
Recent research documents rhodiola rosea increases maximum oxygen intake and increased run time to exhaustion. In a clinical study involving 52 cyclists taking Rhodiola rosea and a placebo, the group taking Rhodiola rosea showed gains in speed and endurance more than 10% higher than the placebo group. The study proved, Rhodiola rosea, increased endurance, while at the same time, measurably increased the time to exhaustion.
In clinical research done by Dr. O.I. Dalziger at Tomsk State University, 42 endurance athletes taking Rhodiola rosea had heart rates measured 30 minutes after racing. The Rhodiola rosea group had heart rates a whopping 25% lower than the placebo group, conclusively proving cardiovascular speedup recovery as well as increased endurance. In a Belgian double blind placebo controlled randomized study using Rhodiola rosea, scientists conclusively proved the VO2 peak increased as the time to exhaustion increased. The research conclusively proved Rhodiola rosea intake improved endurance.
In a 75 day trial involving runners taking Rhodiola rosea it was documented that taking Rhodiola rosea increases oxygen consumption and increases run time to exhaustion. Rhodiola also has adaptogenic activity in high altitude environments. Studies in humans living in high altitudes have found that Rhodiola improves sleep architecture and quality and blood oxygen saturation, as well as increasing superoxide dismutase activity in red blood cells, along with other benefits. Two other species of Rhodiola have prevented hypoxia-mediated damage to rat viscera and had anti-hypoxic effects including lowering of arterial pressure, decrease in heart rate, and lengthening of the cardiac contraction phrase in high altitude environments. Another mechanism of action is the release of endorphins. Russian research indicates that Rhodiola rosea induces opioid peptide biosynthesis by activating opioid receptors in both the central and peripheral nervous system. Administration of Rhodiola for 10 days significantly increased the time that rats could spend running on a treadbane, with an even more significant increase after 20 days, and Rhodiola also increased the swimming times of rats in a "swim to the limit" test by 135-159%.
Cordyceps sinensis (8% Cordycepic acid)
An adaptogen that is primarily native to the plateaus of China and Tibet above 12,000 feet. In addition to scientific documentation that confirms it’s ability to increase energy and endurance, the legendary running coach, Ma Junren (Newsweek. Sept 27,1993), attributes many of the long distance running world records to the athlete’s use of Cordyceps sinensis. One double-blind study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition in February, tested the energy and endurance of 110 healthy sedentary adults. In it, half took 3g of Cordyceps daily while the other half took a placebo. After 12 weeks, the Cordyceps group could bicycle 2.8 percent longer than they could before taking the supplement, while the placebo group decreased the length of their rides by 5.6 percent.
In recent research, Cordyceps sinensis was proven to improve lactate energy metabolism within the cell. The legendary running coach, Ma Junren, has attributed many of the long distance running world records to runners taking Cordyceps sinensis. In another study published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise in 1999, 30 healthy elderly Chinese people took either 3g of Cordyceps daily or a placebo. After six weeks, aerobic capacity in the Cordyceps group increased 9 percent, which researchers say produced higher energy levels, while those taking the placebo saw no energy change.
Recent research indicates that Cordyceps sinensis increases energy and endurance through more efficient enzyme activity of red blood cells. In several research studies, taking Cordyceps indicates it increases testosterone. Several clinical research projects have proven that Cordyceps sinensis increases cellular energy production and oxygen supply. Cordyceps sinensis is documented to help tired legs. Cordyceps sinensis helps tired legs by reducing contraction of blood vessels, which interferes with the flow of blood vessels in the legs, the primary reason for tired legs.
Branched Chain Amino Acids
Precise 2:1:1 ratio of L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine, L-Valine. Science documents these amino acids benefit the endurance athlete by increasing endurance, delaying fatigue and reducing muscle fatigue. It is important to note that branched-chain amino acids can be converted into glucose and used as fuel for endurance activities, very beneficial for the endurance athlete.
A recent study documented BCAA supplementation was very effective in improving time-trialing performance in trained cyclists. The DBM Endurance dosages of leucine, valine, and isoleucine appears to be important to the recovery effects. During exercise, as muscle and liver glycogen are depleted for energy, blood levels of BCAA may also decrease and fatty acid levels increase to serve as an additional energy source. BCAAs are used as a post-exercise recovery aid, where they serve as a fuel source for immune system cells, which are then able to increase their activity and more completely repair muscle/lung damage. For endurance athletes, BCAA supplementation helps delay central fatigue and aids enhance post-exercise recovery.
Citrulline Malate
A very unique amino acid has been proven to dramatically improve aerobic performance by reducing blood lactate levels. Supplementation of citrulline malate has lead to significant reductions of fatigue and increases in energy production. It is considered equally important in the detoxification of ammonium and lactate from the blood. The production and removal of urea is essential for the elimination of ammonia and toxic nitrogen metabolites. Ammonia is extremely toxic to all cells and excessive levels may even be fatal. Even in healthy athletes, the build up of ammonia can lead to extreme fatigue and more. It also reduces glycogen formation, and inhibits the energy cycle. Obviously this is what every athlete wants to avoid!
Nitric oxide is the cell-signaling molecule that has a part in regulating blood flow, oxygen delivery, glucose uptake, muscle firepower, and muscle growth. Obviously the ability to control these physiological effects can be of tremendous value to athletes. Many of Citrulline's functions stem primarily from its ability to increase plasma levels of Arginine endogenously (in the human body). And what is really so exciting about Citrulline is that it seems to increase plasma Arginine levels better than taking the amino acid Arginine itself. Ammonia also forms when bacteria in the intestinal tract breaks down protein. The point is that the more ammonia in your blood, the worse your athletic performance.
Citrulline Malate comes to the rescue once again by aiding in the elimination of amino acid byproducts of protein metabolism. Demonstrations also show Citrulline Malate as having a protective effect against acidosis and ammonia poisoning. It appears that it is synergistic when bonded to citrulline and this peptide may work better than supplementation of citrulline alone. While citrulline acts to increase NO and reduce performance inhibiting metabolic toxins, malate conditions the recycling of lactate and pyruvate, and takes part in the kreb cycle supplying instant and sustained energy.
